Konkatsu is the more modern approach, where the person him/herself is actively engaged in activities like speed dating to find a potential partner. Omiai is a more traditional approach to finding a marriage partner, and meetings are often arranged by a nakoudo (matchmaker/go-between) such as a parent, close relative, family friend, or, as in this case, a boss at work.
